flowage

Liquid in motion

Flowage refers to the act or process of flowing, or the state of having flowed.

In legal and technical contexts, it often describes the flooding of land by water backed up behind a dam: The utility company acquired flowage rights before constructing the reservoir.

A flowage can also be the body of water created by such damming—essentially a shallow artificial lake.
