fire trail
Emergency access road
A fire trail is a cleared path through bushland or forest, designed to give firefighters access during wildfires.
Common in Australia, these unpaved tracks also serve as firebreaks, slowing the spread of flames.
Hikers and off-road vehicles sometimes use fire trails when they're not closed for emergency operations: We took the fire trail down to the creek.
