controlled burn
Planned forest fire
A controlled burn is a fire set intentionally under managed conditions, typically to clear vegetation, reduce wildfire risk, or restore ecosystems.
Forest services and land managers use controlled burns to eliminate accumulated brush and dead material before it becomes dangerous fuel.
Also called a prescribed burn: The park service conducted a controlled burn to protect the watershed.
