fire sprinklers
Heat-activated water jets
Fire sprinklers are ceiling-mounted devices that automatically spray water when heat from a fire triggers them.
Each sprinkler head contains a heat-sensitive element—usually a glass bulb or fusible link—that breaks at a specific temperature, releasing pressurized water onto the flames below.
Despite what movies suggest, only sprinklers directly above the fire activate, not the entire system at once.
