saccade
Gaze's quick leap
A saccade is a rapid, jerky movement of the eye as it shifts focus from one point to another.
When you read, your eyes don't glide smoothly across the page—they jump in saccades from word to word or phrase to phrase.
The term appears in vision science, neurology, and reading research: The patient's saccades were abnormally slow.
