A fake shot is a deceptive move in sports where a player mimics the motion of shooting without releasing the ball or puck, intended to draw defenders out of position or cause a goalkeeper to commit early.
Common in basketball, hockey, and soccer: He pump-faked, got the defender in the air, then drove to the basket.
Also called a shot fake or pump fake.
