overtaking
Moving past another
Overtaking is passing another vehicle or person moving in the same direction.
British English prefers overtaking where American English uses passing: Overtaking on the inside is illegal.
The word also describes catching up to and surpassing someone in a broader sense: China is overtaking the US in renewable energy production.
