feel the burn

Gym encouragement phrase

Feel the burn is an encouragement to push through physical discomfort during exercise, especially the burning sensation in muscles during intense exertion.

Popularized by aerobics culture in the 1980s, it frames pain as progress: Come on, feel the burn!

The phrase sometimes appears ironically about any unpleasant experience one must endure.
