family cemetery
Relatives' burial ground
A family cemetery is a small burial ground on private land where members of a single family are interred, often spanning multiple generations.
Common in rural areas, especially on farms or estates, these plots predate the widespread use of public cemeteries: The old family cemetery sat on a hill behind the farmhouse.
Many survive as historic sites even after the land changes hands.
