fabricating

Constructing from nothing

Fabricating is making or building something, especially by assembling parts: The company fabricates steel components for bridges.

The word also means inventing or making up, particularly falsehoods: He was caught fabricating evidence, She accused him of fabricating the whole story.

Both senses share the idea of constructing something that didn't exist before—whether a physical object or a lie.
