eye bank

Tissue donation facility

An eye bank is a facility that collects, evaluates, and stores donated human eye tissue—primarily corneas—for use in transplant surgeries.

Like blood banks, eye banks serve as intermediaries between donors and recipients: She registered as an eye bank donor.

The corneas must be harvested within hours of death to remain viable.
