endoscopes

Body cavity viewers

Endoscopes are medical instruments for viewing the interior of the body.

A flexible or rigid tube with a light and camera is inserted through a natural opening or small incision, allowing doctors to examine organs, take tissue samples, or perform minor procedures: The surgeon used an endoscope to remove the polyp.

Different types are named for where they look—colonoscope, gastroscope, bronchoscope.
