endocannabinoids
Body's own cannabinoids
Endocannabinoids are signaling molecules produced naturally by the body that bind to the same receptors as cannabis compounds.
They regulate mood, pain, appetite, and other functions through the endocannabinoid system.
The prefix endo- distinguishes these internal cannabinoids from those found in plants: Research suggests endocannabinoids play a role in stress response.
