palatable

Agreeable to consume

Palatable describes food or drink that is acceptable or agreeable to the taste—not necessarily delicious, but pleasant enough to consume without objection.

The word extends naturally to anything that must be accepted or tolerated: a palatable compromise is one both sides can live with, and unpleasant news can be made more palatable by careful framing.

The negative form unpalatable is equally common, describing things difficult to accept or swallow, whether literally or figuratively.

The budget cuts were barely palatable to the board.
