electrode potential
Electron transfer drive
The voltage difference between an electrode and its surrounding solution, measuring the tendency of a chemical species to gain or lose electrons.
In electrochemistry, electrode potentials determine which direction reactions will flow in batteries and electrochemical cells.
Standard electrode potentials, measured against a hydrogen reference electrode, allow comparison of different materials' oxidizing and reducing power.
