duck decoy
Hunter's floating bait
A duck decoy is a replica of a duck used to attract real ducks within shooting range.
Traditionally carved from wood and painted realistically, decoys float on water to create the appearance of a safe gathering spot.
Hunters deploy them in groups called spreads or rigs.
The term also applies to trained live ducks used for the same purpose, now illegal in most jurisdictions.
