dry well
Fruitless drilling result
A dry well is a covered pit filled with gravel or rubble that collects runoff water and allows it to seep gradually into the surrounding soil.
Dry wells manage stormwater from roofs, driveways, and other surfaces: The downspouts drain into a dry well in the backyard.
The term also describes a well that has run out of water or never produced any.
