soakaway

Underground water disperser

A soakaway is a pit or trench filled with gravel or rubble that allows rainwater to drain gradually into the surrounding soil.

Common in British construction, soakaways handle runoff from roofs and paved surfaces where connection to storm drains isn't practical: The gutters empty into a soakaway at the corner of the garden.
