drive-in theatre
Parking lot movies
A drive-in theatre is an outdoor cinema where patrons watch films from their cars.
The screen stands in an open lot, and sound comes through speakers mounted on posts beside each parking spot or broadcast on FM radio.
Drive-ins flourished in mid-20th-century America, offering cheap family entertainment and privacy for couples.
Most have closed, but some survive as nostalgic attractions: We caught a double feature at the drive-in.
