double vowels
Two consecutive aeiou
Double vowels are two identical vowel letters appearing consecutively in a word: the *oo* in *book*, the *ee* in *feet*, the *aa* in *aardvark*.
The term sometimes extends to any two adjacent vowels, identical or not, as in *beau* or *naïve*.
Double vowels typically represent a single sound rather than two separate ones.
