double-time
Rapid military pace
Double-time means twice the normal speed or rate.
In military marching, it's a cadence of 180 steps per minute—effectively jogging: The sergeant ordered the platoon to double-time it across the field.
In music, double-time doubles the tempo or rhythmic density while maintaining the same harmonic pace.
In labor contexts, double-time is pay at twice the regular hourly rate, typically for overtime or holidays: Weekend shifts pay double-time.
