dot matrix printers

Impact grid printers

Dot matrix printers are impact printers that form characters and images by striking an ink ribbon with a grid of pins, creating patterns of dots on paper.

Common in offices through the 1980s and 1990s, they were noisy but cheap to operate and could print through carbon copies.

They survive mainly for multipart forms and industrial applications where impact printing is required.

The old dot matrix printer in the warehouse still handles our shipping labels.
