doorstops
Prevent doors slamming
Doorstops are devices that hold doors open or prevent them from swinging too far.
A doorstop might be a weighted object placed on the floor, a rubber wedge kicked under a door's edge, or a wall-mounted bumper that stops a door from hitting the wall: She used a brick as a doorstop.
Figuratively, something heavy and useless—especially a thick, unread book—gets called a doorstop.
