diwan
Backless oriental couch
A diwan is a collection of poems by a single author, particularly in Persian, Arabic, or Urdu literary traditions.
The word also refers to a council chamber or court of justice in Islamic countries, and by extension, the council itself.
In South Asian usage, a diwan was a chief financial minister.
The term also names a type of backless sofa or couch, from the cushioned benches lining the walls of such council rooms.
