directivity

Focused emission property

Directivity is how strongly a device concentrates energy in one direction rather than spreading it evenly.

Antennas, microphones, and loudspeakers all have directivity—a shotgun microphone has high directivity, picking up sound from a narrow angle while rejecting noise from the sides.

In antenna design, directivity measures how well the antenna focuses radio waves toward a target.

The term appears in acoustics, electromagnetics, and audio engineering.
