dipeptide

Two-residue protein fragment

A dipeptide is a molecule consisting of two amino acids joined by a peptide bond.

Dipeptides form when the amino group of one amino acid links to the carboxyl group of another, releasing water.

They are the simplest peptides and serve as building blocks in protein chemistry: The enzyme cleaves the dipeptide into its constituent amino acids.
