destringing

Taking strings off

Destringing is the removal of strings from something.

Most often this applies to preparing vegetables like green beans or celery by pulling away their fibrous strands: After destringing the beans, cut them into inch-long pieces.

The term also appears in computing contexts for removing string formatting or delimiters from data.
