snap peas
Crunchy green legumes
Snap peas are edible-pod peas with crisp, sweet pods eaten whole, pod and all.
Unlike shell peas, where you discard the fibrous pod, snap peas have tender walls meant to be eaten.
They're typically eaten raw in salads or lightly cooked to preserve their crunch: I added snap peas to the stir-fry at the last minute.
Also called sugar snap peas.
