denationalize
Transfer to private
Denationalize means to transfer an industry, company, or asset from government or state ownership to private ownership—the opposite of nationalize.
Governments denationalize when they sell off publicly owned enterprises to private investors, often as part of broader economic reforms.
The government denationalized the railway system in the 1990s.
The term can also mean to deprive someone of nationality or citizenship, though this sense is less common.
