demurrer

Pleading without disputing

A demurrer is a legal objection that says "even if everything you claim is true, it's not enough to win." It doesn't dispute the facts—it argues the law doesn't support the opponent's case: The defense filed a demurrer, arguing the complaint failed to state a valid claim.

Outside law, demurrer occasionally means any formal objection or expression of doubt.
