vacillation
Back and forth
Vacillation is wavering between options or positions, unable to settle on one.
The word suggests prolonged indecision rather than a single moment of doubt: After months of vacillation, she finally accepted the job offer.
Someone prone to vacillation keeps changing their mind, which can frustrate others waiting for a decision.
