decompensation
Body's coping fails
Decompensation is the failure of a system that had been managing to hold together.
In medicine, it describes when a body or organ can no longer compensate for disease or dysfunction: The patient's heart went into decompensation.
In psychology, it refers to the breakdown of mental defenses under stress, often leading to worsening symptoms: After months of pressure, she experienced acute decompensation.
