death marches
Lethal forced walks
Death marches are forced marches of prisoners or captives under conditions designed to kill many of them—exhaustion, starvation, exposure, or execution of stragglers.
The term applies especially to Nazi relocations of concentration camp prisoners near the end of World War II: Thousands died on the death marches from Auschwitz.
In workplace slang, a death march is a doomed project driven relentlessly toward failure: The whole team knew the product launch was a death march.
