deadness

Absence of vitality

Deadness is the quality or state of being dead, lifeless, or inactive.

It applies literally to the absence of life but more often describes a lack of vitality, responsiveness, or sensation: the deadness in her eyes, a deadness in my fingertips after the cold.

Deadness can characterize emotional flatness, acoustic dullness in a room, or the lifeless quality of a performance or conversation that fails to engage.
