dead centre

Precisely the midpoint

Dead centre (also dead center) is the exact middle point of something, with no deviation in any direction: The dart landed dead centre.

In mechanics, it refers to positions where a crank and connecting rod are aligned so no turning force can be applied—top dead centre and bottom dead centre in an engine cycle.

Figuratively, hitting something dead centre means striking it precisely where intended.
