data acquisition
Gathering raw inputs
Data acquisition is the process of collecting and measuring signals from physical sources—temperature, pressure, voltage, sound—and converting them into digital form for analysis or storage.
Often abbreviated DAQ, it's fundamental to scientific instruments, industrial monitoring, and research: The lab's data acquisition system samples ten thousand times per second.
The term also applies more broadly to any systematic gathering of information: Customer data acquisition through online forms.
