cyberlocker
Online file vault
A cyberlocker is an online file-hosting service that lets users upload and share files, typically through direct download links.
The term emerged in the 2000s as services like Megaupload and RapidShare became popular for distributing large files—often pirated media.
The movie leaked through a cyberlocker before its theatrical release.
Though some cyberlockers serve legitimate purposes, the term carries associations with copyright infringement.
