peer to peer
Direct between equals
Peer to peer describes a network or system where participants interact directly with each other rather than through a central server or authority.
In computing, peer-to-peer file sharing lets users transfer files directly between computers: BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol.
The model extends beyond technology to any arrangement where equals transact without intermediaries: peer-to-peer lending, peer-to-peer payments.
Often abbreviated P2P.
