cupule

Small cup structure

A cupule is a small cup-shaped structure, most commonly the cap that holds an acorn to its stem.

The term appears in botany for similar protective cups around seeds or nuts, and in anatomy for cup-like depressions in bone or tissue: The acorn had separated from its cupule.
