croqueta

Breaded creamy morsel

Croqueta is the Spanish word for croquette, a small fried roll typically made from a thick béchamel base mixed with ham, chicken, cod, or other fillings, then breaded and deep-fried until golden.

In American English, croqueta usually refers specifically to the Cuban-style version popular in Miami and other areas with large Cuban communities, where ham croquetas are a staple of café windows and lunch counters.

I grabbed a couple of croquetas from the ventanita on my way to work.
