countercoups
Putsches against putsches
Countercoups are seizures of power that overthrow a government that itself came to power through a coup.
The term also applies to moves that reverse or neutralize an opponent's coup in other contexts: The general's countercoup restored the elected president within days.
In medicine, a contrecoup injury occurs on the opposite side of the brain from where impact occurred—different word, different spelling.
