countercoup
Coup against coup
A countercoup is a coup staged in response to an earlier coup, typically to restore the ousted government or install yet another faction: The military countercoup returned the president to power within days.
In medicine, a countercoup injury occurs on the opposite side of the brain from where impact occurred, as the brain rebounds against the skull.
