council housing
Government-provided residences
Council housing is residential accommodation built and managed by local government authorities, primarily in Britain.
These homes are rented to tenants at below-market rates, with priority given to those in need based on income, family size, or housing circumstances.
The term emerged in the early twentieth century as municipalities constructed large housing estates to address urban overcrowding and poor living conditions.
They grew up in council housing on the outskirts of Manchester.
