correspondence school
Mail-based learning institution
A correspondence school is an educational institution where students learn remotely, receiving lessons and assignments by mail rather than attending classes in person.
The term dates from before the internet, when physical mail was the primary means of distance education: She earned her degree through a correspondence school while working full-time.
Now largely replaced by online learning.
