conformations

Molecular structural forms

Conformations are the different shapes or arrangements a molecule or structure can take.

In chemistry, conformations refer to the various spatial arrangements atoms can adopt through rotation around single bonds—the same molecule can exist in multiple conformations without breaking any bonds.

In biology, a protein's conformation is its three-dimensional shape, which determines its function: The drug works by changing the receptor's conformation.

More broadly, conformation can mean any particular shape or structure: the conformation of the landscape.
