double bonds
Two electron pairs
Double bonds are chemical bonds in which two atoms share two pairs of electrons rather than one.
They appear in organic chemistry notation as two parallel lines between atoms: C=C, C=O.
Double bonds are stronger and shorter than single bonds but less flexible, creating rigidity in molecular structure.
The double bond in ethylene prevents rotation between the carbon atoms.
