compass points
North, south, east, west
Compass points are the cardinal directions—north, south, east, west—and their subdivisions.
The four cardinals combine into intermediate points: northeast, southwest.
Further subdivision yields sixteen points (north-northeast, east-southeast), or thirty-two on traditional compass roses.
The wind shifted to the compass point just south of due west.
Compass points name regions and give directions.
