tea party
Cups and conversation
A tea party is a social gathering where tea and light refreshments are served, often with an air of civility or formality: The children had a tea party with their stuffed animals.
The term can describe any small, genteel gathering.
It also serves as shorthand for something overly polite or insufficiently serious: This isn't a tea party—lives are at stake. (Capitalized Tea Party refers to the American political movement or the Boston Tea Party.)
