cockpit voice recorder
Cabin audio logger
A cockpit voice recorder is a device in an aircraft that continuously records audio from the cockpit—pilot conversations, radio communications, engine sounds, and alarms.
Along with the flight data recorder, it forms the "black box" (actually orange) that investigators recover after crashes to reconstruct what happened.
The cockpit voice recorder captured the crew's final words.
