coalfish
North Atlantic swimmer
Coalfish is a dark-skinned fish of the cod family, found in North Atlantic waters.
Also called saithe or pollock, it has firm flesh that's often sold as a cheaper alternative to cod.
The name comes from its dark, almost coal-colored back.
Fresh coalfish fillets make a decent substitute for haddock.
